66-year-old mom criticized after giving birth to twin boys

In 2006, Maria Carmen del Bousada from Cadiz, Spain, became the world’s oldest mother at 66 after selling her home to afford IVF in California, where she reportedly lied about her age. She gave birth to healthy twin boys, Christian and Pau, but was diagnosed with ovarian cancer just six months later and passed away in 2009. While criticized by some for having children so late in life, Maria believed women should choose when to become mothers, and her family now lovingly raises the boys.
