A year after multiple surgeries for serious health issues, Al Roker is grateful his family shielded him from the full extent of his complications. “I almost died,” Roker shared on the “Your Mama’s Kitchen” podcast. His wife, Deborah, and daughter, Leila, kept him focused on recovery by hiding the severity of his condition.
The 69-year-old “Today” show weatherman was hospitalized last November for blood clots and later treated for bleeding ulcers. “I went in for one operation, I got four free,” he joked upon his return to the show in January. Despite missing Thanksgiving, Roker pushed to be present for Christmas, even cooking dinner for his family.
