Chilling footage recorded by Koichi Abe from the rooftop of Ishinomaki Gas Inc. shows the 2011 tsunami devastating Ishinomaki city in Miyagi Prefecture. As 35 evacuees watched in fear, waves filled with debris swept through the area, smashing cars and nearly reaching the rooftop.
Captured moments include rising floodwaters, panicked voices, and concern for nearby schools. The building was later restored and now serves as Ishinomaki Gas’s Myojin office, with the company having relocated its main operations as part of crisis management efforts.
