It’s Been Ten Years Since The Miracle On The Hudson – Captain Sully’s Cockpit Audio Still Gives Me Chills
On January 15, 2009, Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger made history when he safely landed US Airways Flight 1549 in the Hudson River after both engines failed. Known as the “Miracle on the Hudson,” Sully’s composure and skill saved 155 lives.
After takeoff from LaGuardia, the plane struck a flock of geese, causing the engines to fail. With limited options, Sully and his co-pilot, Jeff Skiles, quickly ruled out returning to an airport and chose to ditch the plane in the river. Sully’s calm radio call, “We’re gonna be in the Hudson,” epitomized his leadership, guiding the plane to safety despite the high stakes.
