Father Shares Heartbreaking Words from 11-Year-Old Daughter After Antioch Shooting

An 11-year-old girl is in critical condition after being shot in the head while sitting in her father’s car in Antioch, California, on January 5. The bullet went through the rear windshield, and she was rushed to UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital. Her first words after the attack were, “Dad, why can’t I see?”—leaving her father heartbroken.

The suspected shooter, Ryan Hardy, surrendered to authorities on January 12 and is in custody. Doctors report slow but encouraging progress: the girl is beginning to regain her sight and can now take steps again.

The family, traumatized and feeling unsafe in their home, launched a GoFundMe to cover medical care, relocation, and support, raising nearly $25,000. The community continues to rally around them as she recovers.
