Raskin Faces Backlash for Publishing Ghislaine Maxwell Emails

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) is under fire after releasing private emails from convicted human trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell. The correspondence, reportedly obtained without authorization from Federal Prison Camp Bryan staff, led to multiple employee firings.

Maxwell’s attorney, Leah Saffian, called Raskin’s actions “a gross abuse of power” and said the release violated constitutional protections. The emails showed Maxwell describing her new prison as clean and safe, contrasting with her prior facility in Florida.

Raskin suggested the messages indicated Maxwell might seek clemency from former President Trump, a claim Saffian denied. She said Maxwell plans to challenge her 2021 conviction in federal court.

Republicans criticized Raskin for breaching ethics and due process, while legal experts warned the release could lead to formal complaints or civil action. Saffian confirmed Maxwell’s team is preparing a complaint with the Office of Congressional Ethics
