In July 2020, Thomas and his 11-year-old son Owen Graves went missing during a planned three-day hike on the Boogerman Trail in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Despite Thomas’s hiking experience, the father and son never returned. Their disappearance prompted a search, which confirmed their vehicle was still at the trailhead, indicating they remained somewhere in the dense, remote wilderness.
