Purple or Bluish Veins Could Signal More Than a Cosmetic Issue

Noticing purple or bluish veins on your legs may be more than just a cosmetic concern. Often caused by varicose or spider veins, these visible veins occur when blood vessels near the skin become enlarged or weakened, sometimes signaling underlying circulation problems.

Varicose veins are swollen, twisted veins that are clearly visible under the skin, while smaller spider veins appear as fine red or blue lines resembling a web. Both conditions result from weakened vein walls or malfunctioning one-way valves, which allow blood to pool in the legs and increase vein pressure.

Early recognition and treatment can help maintain healthy blood flow and prevent complications.
