A man, thinking he had found a hornet nest in his attic, was struck with panic when he discovered what was really inside

In the windswept hills of Finistère, Brittany, Denis Jaffré, a former sailor turned beekeeper, faced an unexpected challenge. In 2017, Asian hornets — invasive predators that destroy bee colonies — wiped out half his hives. Fifty colonies gone.

The loss was personal. “You care for them… and then overnight, everything is wiped out,” he said. But Denis didn’t give up — he got curious.
