Officer Lauren Craven, age 25, of the La Mesa Police Department, was tragically struck

On October 20, 2025, Officer Lauren Craven, 25, of the La Mesa Police Department, was fatally struck while helping at a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 8 near Fairmount Avenue. A 19-year-old driver also died.

Craven, returning from duty, stopped to assist despite not being dispatched. The California Highway Patrol is investigating.

She joined the force in 2024 and was remembered for her courage and dedication. Flags were ordered at half-staff in her honor.
