Born on November 8, 1935, near Paris, Alain grew up between two families after his parents’ separation. Often in trouble at school, he was expelled several times. He trained briefly as a butcher, worked in a store, and later served in the Army, which he said shaped his character. After his service, he returned to civilian life as a waiter.
