Stephanie and Dan Dworsky were filled with both joy and concern after the birth of their son, Kacy, who was diagnosed with a rare skin condition called melanocytic nevus. Affecting just 1 in 500,000 people, the condition causes large dark patches to appear all over the body. Kacy has a Giant Arm Nevus and numerous “satellite” spots on his face, legs, and back.
Though not physically painful, the condition increases the risk of skin cancer and can have significant emotional and social impacts. Stephanie, who had a healthy pregnancy, admitted to feeling guilt despite knowing she did nothing wrong. The couple is now preparing to support Kacy through the challenges he may face due to his appearance, including public reactions and social stigma.
