Los Angeles, CA – If your dog won’t stop sniffing your genital area, don’t panic—experts say it’s completely normal canine behavior.
Dogs have an incredibly powerful sense of smell and use it to gather information. The groin area contains pheromones and scent glands, making it a key spot for dogs to learn about people.
“Dogs are just doing what comes naturally,” explains Dr. Karen Fields, a veterinary behaviorist. “It’s their way of saying hello and figuring out who you are.”
While the behavior can feel awkward, it’s usually harmless. Trainers recommend gently redirecting your dog if it becomes too persistent or happens in public.
