Fred Roos, renowned casting director for films like The Godfather Part II and Apocalypse Now, passed away at 89. He shaped the careers of stars like Tom Cruise, Jack Nicholson, and Harrison Ford, and worked closely with Francis Ford Coppola on several projects, including American Graffiti.
Roos also had a hand in launching Sofia Coppola’s career and recently worked on Megalopolis. His death follows that of Roger Corman, the influential independent filmmaker known for discovering future stars like Robert De Niro and Bruce Dern.
