Joe “Jellybean” Bryant, former NBA player and father of basketball legend Kobe Bryant, has died following a major stroke, La Salle head coach Fran Dunphy confirmed on July 16. He was 69.
A first-round draft pick in 1975, Joe played for teams including the Golden State Warriors, Philadelphia 76ers, and Houston Rockets, before coaching internationally and in the WNBA. His passing comes just years after the tragic death of his son Kobe in a 2020 helicopter crash.
