In 2012, Rebecca Callaghan’s pregnancy complications led to an early induction. Matilda was born with a large blue mark on her face, later identified as a birthmark linked to Sturge Weber’s syndrome, a rare disorder causing seizures, learning difficulties, and paralysis. She also had two holes in her heart, but after surgery, she began laser treatments for her birthmark.
Despite facing regular treatments, blindness, and mobility issues, Matilda remained cheerful and strong-willed. She uses a walking frame and endures stares and mockery. Now 8 years old, Matilda continues to inspire, and her family is fundraising for a new wheelchair to help her enjoy the outdoors.
