Cyclone Emergency Declared Across Three States—Stay Prepared
A bomb cyclone is forming off the West Coast, expected to bring strong winds, heavy snow, and rain this week. Meteorologists have issued an alert as the storm intensifies rapidly through bombogenesis, with pressure dropping by 20-24 millibars in 24 hours.
The storm’s atmospheric river will bring heavy rain and snow to Oregon and Northern California, with up to 15 inches of rain in some areas. Mountain regions could see up to a foot of snow. The worst effects are expected from Tuesday to Friday, possibly lasting into Saturday.
Increased rainfall may cause flooding, especially in areas with poor drainage, and the risk of rockslides and mudslides is high. The Cascade and Siskiyou Mountains will see several feet of snow, impacting driving on mountain roads like Siskiyou Pass and Snoqualmie Pass. Wind gusts of 60-70 mph are expected in Northern California, Oregon, and Washington, with power outages possible. Winds will continue through the week.
