Tomm Tennent was born in 1993 with a rare condition that left him with excess skin, puzzling doctors. His parents, Geoff and Debbie, initially debated continuing the pregnancy but chose to embrace whatever came.
Despite extensive testing, doctors couldn’t diagnose Tomm’s condition until they found he had 100 times the normal amount of hyaluronic acid, similar to Shar Pei puppies. They hoped his skin would normalize as he grew.
Growing up, Tomm faced teasing at school but maintained a positive outlook, saying, “They don’t really care how I look.” By 2003, he embraced his uniqueness, stating, “I see a kind, loving person when I look in the mirror.”
Now 28, Tomm is happily married and lives in Australia, focusing on resilience and self-acceptance: “You make choices, and you don’t look back.”
