Past Presidents’ Physicals: What We Know So Far
In January 1975, Ford’s doctor reported he was in excellent health with normal test results. By July 1976, another physical revealed no significant complaints aside from mild knee discomfort after prolonged standing. Ford maintained his fitness, slept well, and weighed between 195 and 198 pounds.
In 1975, Ford’s doctor noted that the new White House swimming pool would provide him with valuable relaxation time. Dr. William Lukash mentioned in January 1976 that Ford had been reluctant to swim in winter due to energy conservation concerns, but he encouraged the use of the pool for Ford’s well-being, noting that he swam about a quarter of a mile in 14 minutes.
Bush’s press assistant reported that a long-standing sebaceous cyst on his left hand was drained, and it was not a medical issue.
In October 1981, Reagan’s White House physician confirmed he was in excellent health after being evaluated by 14 experts, stating he had fully recovered from his March gunshot wounds.
