A distraught woman, after discovering her husband’s infidelity, sought advice from her wise grandmother. In response, the grandmother boiled three pots of water, placing a carrot, an egg, and coffee beans in each. Curious, the granddaughter watched as the carrot softened, the egg hardened, and the coffee beans changed the water.
The grandmother then asked, “Which one are you—the carrot, the egg, or the coffee bean?”
The lesson was simple: adversity can soften you, harden you, or, like the coffee bean, allow you to transform your surroundings. In tough times, choose to be the coffee bean—adapt and rise above.
