Born on March 10, 1940, in Ryan, Oklahoma, Norris had a tumultuous childhood. His father, a heavy drinker, left when Chuck was 10, leaving his mother, Wilma, to raise him and his two brothers while moving frequently. Despite the instability, Wilma instilled a strong Christian faith in her children, emphasizing that “God has a plan for you.”
