Princess Diana, beloved as the People’s Princess, tragically died in a car crash in Paris on August 31, 1997, while fleeing paparazzi. At the time, her sons, Harry and William, were just 12 and 15. Diana, along with partner Dodi Fayed and others, crashed in the Pont de l’Alma tunnel. Emergency responder Xavier Gourmelon, one of the first on the scene, recalled Diana’s final words, “My God, what’s happened?” Despite her injuries, he hoped she would survive, but she passed away from internal injuries the next day. Her funeral was watched by 2.3 billion people worldwide, marking a global loss.
